
Shireen Vakil
Shireen Vakil is a distinguished social sector leader with expertise in child protection, gender and education. Shireen spent 20 years with Save the Children both in the UK and India, and was part of the leadership team responsible for establishing Save the Children, India, playing a pivotal role as the Director of Advocacy, Campaigns, and Communications, including working with the MWCD and UNICEF on the first National level Child Abuse study (2007) and the development of the ICPS scheme. From 2015- 2020 Shireen was Head of Policy and Advocacy at The Tata Trusts. Following that Shireen led Safety policy for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region at Meta, working at the interface of technology and policy to provide expertise in the areas of online child protection, women’s safety and youth mental health and well- being. Most recently, Shireen led the Child Opportunity Fund, a bold 10-year, multi- million-dollar joint initiative between the British Asian Trust and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation to reduce child marriage, child labour, and child trafficking through a comprehensive approach for lasting impact. Shireen comes with strong experience in building multi-stakeholder partnerships, addressing national and global issues with governments, donors, civil society and the media and has appeared and written on a spectrum of child rights and gender issues, in national and international media. Her academic credentials include a Master’s in Education and International Development from the Institute of Education, University of London.
