Thank you for Supporting Arpan this Daan Utsav

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ARPAN THIS Daan Utsav

Daan Utsav, earlier called the Joy of Giving Week (Oct 2nd to 8th), is India’s ‘Festival of Giving’, where people from all walks of life come together to give back to the society. This year, Arpan ran a special campaign during Daan Utsav and sought your support to join us in the journey towards preventing child sexual abuse and healing children who go through it!

As you may know, 1 in 2 children experiences some form of Child Sexual Abuse (both boys and girls), while 1 in 5 faces severe sexual abuse (Ministry of Women and Child Development Study, 2007). As per the National Crime Records Bureau Report 2018, 94.9% of abusers were known to the victim in cases of severe sexual abuse. The numbers tell an interesting story, of an issue that happens behind closed doors and is committed, in many cases, by people the child trusts. Despite these overwhelming statistics and the proven lifelong impact on the physical and mental health of the child, unless addressed in a timely and appropriate manner, the issue remains unacknowledged and hidden. Yet, prevention of child sexual abuse is possible and healing is also possible.

Arpan is one of the very few organizations in India working on this issue for the past 13 years. At the core of all of Arpan’s work is the Personal Safety Education (PSE) programme that empowers children (age 6-15 years) by providing them with the knowledge and skills to prevent CSA, to seek help if unsafe, and counsels them and intervenes if they face abuse; importantly, the programme also works to empower their adult caregivers to create safe environments. To-date, Arpan has empowered over 130,000 children and 100,000 adults, counseled 8,000 children who disclosed abuse and stopped all ongoing abuse. Arpan has trained over 8,000 Government and Non-Government professionals to implement the programme who in turn have reached out to 1.13 million (11.3 lakh) children and adults.

While we continue to implement this programme online in the current situation, COVID-19 has reduced funding availability. Here is where we needed your support through the Daan Utsav Fundraiser. We also ran a special Daan Utsav contest where 2 randomly selected donors among our top 20 donors would get an opportunity to e-meet Arpan’s brand ambassador, Vidya Balan or win the saree that she wore while receiving an award at the 57th Filmfare Awards ceremony. Besides this, every donation of 10,000 and above would get a dairy autographed by Vidya Balan!

We are really happy to share that the Winners of the Daan Utsav Contest are:

  • Winner of the e-Meet & Greet with Vidya Balan – Mr. Surendra Rosha
  • Winner of the gorgeous saree from Vidya Balan’s wardrobe – The Taneja’s

We thank all those who have supported Arpan to help prevent Child Sexual Abuse!
